A brief description of the institution’s LGBTQ-inclusive policies, programs and practices:
Binghamton University has several LGBTQ inclusive policies which includes the following: non-discrimination statement on sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, health insurance coverage to employees same sex partner, accessible and simple process for students to change their names and gender identity on university records and documents.
In the areas of programs and practices Binghamton University has: a dedicated resource center for the LBGTQ community which includes paid staff and provides various programs that support LGBTQ faculty, staff, and students. The University provides support for academic life through offering LGBTQ studies programs and actively recruiting faculty for LGBTQ related academic scholarship. In the area of student life, Binghamton University has LGBTQ and Ally student organizations, offers LGBTQ social activities, educational events, and career services. Binghamton University also provides gender inclusive housing for new and returning students and provides ongoing LGBTQ awareness training for residence life staff.
Binghamton University has procedures in place to report LGBTQ related bias and hate crimes and resources for counseling and health services. Also, Binghamton University has implemented a LGBTQ mentoring program to welcome and assist LGBTQ students in transitioning to academic and college life.
