A brief description of the graduation pledge program:
Berea College
Alumni Pledge
"As a graduate of Berea College, and in recognition of its message of hope and its legacy of bringing love, human dignity and equality, and peace with justice to the world, I pledge to the following:
To live a life of purpose and service;
To promote the public good;
To never teach hate;
To challenge injustice with intellectual rigor, honesty, and courage;
To embrace the dignity of all labor;
To seek excellence and truth as a continuous learner;
To explore through faith the value and beauty of differences;
To continue to find Berea College a place of self-discovery; and
To support the mission of Berea College in my word and deeds."
The Alumni Pledge was written for the senior class in 2005 by Dr. Bill Laramee, who served as Vice President for Alumni and College Relations
from 2000-2011. It is recited by graduating Seniors at each year's Senior Banquet.
