A brief description of the program:
Center for Excellence in Learning through Service (CELTS) and one of its programs, People who Care, host a Consumer Awareness Day every year. Collection boxes are distributed throughout the dorms. All donated clothes and other items left in the collection boxes are sold for 50 cents apiece. The money collected from the sale is donated to a local nonprofit organization. Unsold clothes usually go to Goodwill, but they could go elsewhere. Another program helping to reduce the waste produced by residence is Books for Africa. Also coordinates though CELTS and One-on-One Tutoring. One-On-One Tutoring partnered up with Better World Books and Books for Africa. Most of the donated books are gather towards the end of the year when students are done using their books. During finals week books are collected. Once sorted the books are sent to Better World Books.
