Name or title of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome:
LEED Platinum All Purpose Arena

A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome that outlines how credit criteria are met and any positive measurable outcomes associated with the innovation:

In 2018, Bentley University constructed a 76,000 square-foot multi purpose ice arena. The Bentley Arena achieved the United States Green Building Council's first LEED Platinum Certification for a stand-alone ice arena, making it the most environmentally friendly arena in the United States.

The Bentley Arena has half of the carbon footprint of peer buildings, due to a combination of high efficiency heating, ventilation and air conditioning equipment, high efficiency ice making equipment, a state-of-the-art heat reclamation loop, smart LED lighting systems, and a 504 MW rooftop solar array. The solar array (consisting of 1,400 solar panels) provides the building with 40% of its annual electricity needs. The Bentley Arena also uses 50% less water than peers and provides the perfect venue for students to explore the impacts of various sustainable technologies on natural resource use and operating costs.
