The survey was emailed to all 6,222 Bentley community members, including students, staff, and faculty. The email was sent by the Institutional Research department on behalf of the Office of Sustainability and included a link to the Qualtrics survey. Three additional emails were sent with a reminder to complete the survey before it was closed on February 21, 2020. Overall, 437 people completed the survey.

A brief summary of results from the cultural assessment:
Summary of results:
The majority of respondents indicated that they knew “Nothing at all” or “Only a little” about Bentley’s Office of Sustainability and a number of sustainability initiatives at Bentley University. A majority of respondents indicated that they believe it’s important to Bentley to adapt to reduce the impact that it has on the environment around it and encourages its community members to learn more and be more sustainable. A majority of respondents indicated that they are “Always” or “Most of the time” practicing a number of sustainable behaviors at while they are at Bentley.

Measurable changes over time: 42% of respondents indicated they know a “Fair amount” or “Great deal of the Office of Sustainability compared to 60% of respondents indicated they “Have heard of” the Office of Sustainability in 2016. 36% of respondents stated they know a “Fair amount” or “Great deal” about the Office’s 70% carbon reduction achievement and 30% of respondents indicated they know a “Fair amount” or “Great deal” about the Office’s 2030 carbon neutrality goal compared to participants in the 2016 survey stating they were “most uncertain” about the Office’s carbon reduction goals and accomplishments. 68% of participants stated they used a reusable mug “Always” or “Most of the time” compared to “Less strong responses” concerning reusable coffee mug usage in 2016. 90% of respondents stated that they had “Attended events organized by the Office of Sustainability or student sustainable groups” while 19% of students stated they had attended an event hosted by the Office of Sustainability in 2016.
