A brief description of the methodology the institution followed to complete the research inventory:

- Bentley’s registrar provided a complete list of peer and editorial-reviewed journals from faculty members published during FY19 between June 2018 and June 2019. Research was also pulled from the Bentley Research Council's Google Scholar website. The total number of faculty conducting research in FY19 was determined by counting the number of faculty who submitted research or were published within the reporting time frame.
- For the purposes of this inventory, it is assumed that all full time Bentley faculty are conducting research. In FY19, the number of full time faculty was 291.
- Bentley’s Student Sustainability Leadership team helped to classify this research as sustainability focused based on research titles and abstracts. Their inventory was then reviewed by the Office of Sustainability staff.
- Sustainability research was identified as such if the research's primary or explicit focus was on one or more of the sustainability challenges outlined by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
