A brief description of the methodology and/or tool used to complete the GHG emissions inventory, including how the institution accounted for each category of Scope 3 emissions reported above:
Scope 1 emissions calculated through spreadsheets using factors provided by EPA for diesel and natural gas emissions. Used tool from Greenhouse Gas Protocol to calculate scope 2 emission based on actual consumption records. This tool is tailored to specific regions and allows us to calculate emissions based on TVA's mix of generating capacity.

A brief description of the internal and/or external verification process:
Scope 1 calculation procedures and results are submitted to Metro Nashville Health Department for verification review and renewal of Federal EPA Air Permit. I C Thomasson Associates, Inc. (ICT) a consulting engineering firm has been retained to review and comment on our Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions calculation procedures and results.

A brief description of when and why the GHG emissions baseline was adopted (e.g. in sustainability plans and policies or in the context of other reporting obligations):
Baseline was adopted for this report. Stationary combustion emissions are seeing a positive reduction due to the university replacing older fuel burning equipment with higher efficiency boilers and condensing boilers. Purchased electricity emissions are the result of adding additional buildings across campus.
