A brief description of the program, including examples of peer-to-peer outreach activities:
Belmont has identified six core competencies that are expected of individuals in our community, which are as follows: Diversity and Inclusion, Critical Thinking, Customer Focus, Communication, Managing Change, and Collaboration and Teamwork. Our employees are required to complete a training course on each core competency, which are facilitated by trained peer volunteers. The sessions are presented in a small group format to allow for peer-to-peer discussions, learning, and the sharing of best practices. For example, the Diversity and Inclusion course has small groups assess Belmont Diversity efforts and provide feedback for further strengthening our culture of inclusion. The Customer Focus course introduces our five guiding principles of service to the Belmont community, including “Show We Care” and “Do it Right” which focus on caring for one another and for our surroundings.
A brief description of how the employee educators are selected:
41 peer educators were nominated by their leaders and Human Resources to attend train the trainer sessions and then facilitate workshops throughout the year.
A brief description of the formal training that the employee educators receive to prepare them to conduct peer outreach:
Human Resources conducted train the trainer sessions in each of the 6 modules.
A brief description of the financial and/or administrative support the institution provides to the program (e.g. annual budget and/or paid faculty/staff coordination):
All facilitators conduct sessions during their regular work schedule and therefor are paid for their time. All materials and the program administrator's salary are included in the Office of Human Resources annual budget.
