A brief description of the program:
When possible, we follow the State’s "Think Washington First” policy, found in Section 5.2.c of the Washington State Purchasing Manual. This policy applies to non-competitive contracts and services.
Throughout campus, when given a choice and the price is comparable, most employees choose to purchase from local businesses in order to support them and our local economy. Within the Purchasing Department, we strive to give preference to local businesses as well. Besides the many local “direct buy” (non-competitive) purchases we make, we often buy from State contracts, many of which have been awarded to Washington-based businesses.
When possible, we purchase from Correctional Industries which supports inmates in our local correctional institutions. We have also offered and taken advantage of multiple State reciprocity agreements, which, as stated in the Purchasing Manual, are to be used to discourage barriers to opportunities for Washington-based businesses desiring to do business with other states.
