A student commuter survey was sent out to gather data on student modes of transport. Because Bates is a residential college, the results of the survey were that most of our students were shown to walk or ride their bicycles to class. We have been working to increase bike commuting for off-campus students during the warmer months as a way to lessen our environmental impact, and alleviate parking troubles.

We have figures for electric vehicle users, since they are charging on campus, and are an active google groupwhich the sustainability office maintains. We also have a commuter vanpool, which the sustainabiltiy oversees. They pay a fee. Also included via survey are staff and faculty that bike to work.
