A brief description of how sustainability is included prominently in new student orientation :
Sustainability is addressed during new student week, with mandatory for all sustainability programs integrated into the orientation schedule, as well as across the board sustainability training for first-year trip staff. New students are introduced to our bike sharing program, as well as opportunities to get involved with our EcoRep Interns and other sustainability clubs. All students receive a brief overview on Bates carbon neutrality goals and ways they can help.
We also give out to the students their reusable stainless steel mugs for their time at Bates. We no longer have a disposable option for drinks. Each mug is accompanied by a flyer explaining sustainability initiatives on campus and letting them know how to get involved. This is extended to transfer students as well -
