The college owns a number of apartments in college-owned buildings. Certain Residential Life/Student life/Community Safety staff members are provided housing and Faculty are rented at below market rate until they make tenure.
Employees have access to Columbia University Intercampus Shuttle Service
Barnard students, faculty, and staff (current ID Holders) can use the Columbia Intercampus Shuttle Service that connects Columbia's Morningside, Manhattanville, and Medical Center campuses.
Free Evening Ride Share On Demand
Barnard has joined Columbia University in offering the Via ride share service using an on-demand app-based system. This point-to-point service is a limited shared ride within a geo-fenced area of the Morningside and Manhattanville area.

Barnard guarantees on campus housing for all first year students and all students who continue to live on campus. All dorms are either on campus or just a short walk away, ensuring most student walk or bike to campus.
The College offers employees the opportunity to use pre-tax dollars to pay certain commuting costs through WageWorks. This program provides employees with an online ordering system for public transportation passes/card. By using this benefit, employees can save on their income, Social Security (FICA) taxes by paying for your commuting expenses with pre-tax dollars up to the IRS limit.
The College also allows for employees in non-student facing departments to work remotely full time or on a hybrid schedule determined by division and supervisor. This reduces commuting overall.
