EcoReps
A brief description of the student educators program (1st program):
At the beginning of the academic year, the Barnard EcoReps participate in New Student Orientation (NSOP) as educators, hosting a variety of educational programming to first year students such as how to compost in the dining halls, sustainability 101, green campus tours and host a Green Sale with previously used items that have been donated by members of the campus community during move out. The Green Sale is open to all students, not just first year students, and provides an experience for students beyond just a "store." EcoReps actively engage with students to share information about how shopping used provides positive environmental benefits and is part of a healthy circular economy. They arrive a week before new students for training and prep work.
Move out is another time when EcoReps are employed and trained to help all students move off campus sustainably in addition to sorting through donations. During exams, EcoReps engage with student to share tips on best practices for a green moveout.
This program is largely student organized, and students are provided financial and housing support by the university in exchange for their participation during NSOP and Move Out (Give and Go Green).
