Name of the campaign:
Recyclemania

A brief description of the campaign:

Bard participates in Recyclemania with an emphasis on our food scrap category. The Eco Community student club led the effort. Here's a description of their Carnival: The purpose of Recylemania was to teach students to recycle properly while also demonstrating how to put on a carnival without creating any waste, and giving out reusable prizes. We planned 5 carnival games that were each made using unwanted materials and provided 5 facts about how to recycle properly that went along with each game. The facts were on posters made out of repurposed vinyl window shades. We gathered materials in the couple weeks leading up to the carnival. We bought reusable water bottles and food containers to give out as carnival prizes, reusable straws to use as sticks for carnival foods that we made, and made caramel apples and chocolate covered bananas.

A brief description of the measured positive impact(s) of the campaign:

All trash, recycling and compost is measured for the eight week period of the campaign. Food waste per person is measured on a cumulative basis for every week of Recyclmania. Reductions in food waste between years demonstrates positive impacts of the program.

Name of the campaign (2nd campaign):
EcoChallenge

A brief description of the campaign (2nd campaign):

The College has formed teams during two EcoChallange campaigns: Drawdown EcoChallenge and the (50th Earth Day) EcoChallenge. These are one month campaigns that ran in April. During the Drawdown Challenge we had 21 days to create new habits, read stories of hope, and figure out how we’re going to reverse global weirding together. We competed with 500+ teams across the country to build awareness around climate solutions that are good for us and good for the economy. For the 50th Earth Day EcoChallenge we reached 88 team members and placed in the top 20 in New York.

A brief description of other sustainability-related outreach campaigns:

The Center for Civic Engagement, in partnership with the Red Hook Senior Services Committee, the Dutchess County Office for the Aging, and the Lifetime Learning Institute, were part of the solution to senior citizen isolation with Notes of Care. Notes of Care is a community project to collect positive and uplifting notes on a weekly basis for the 125+ senior citizens in Red Hook that receive weekly home meal delivery from the Office for the Aging. Notes of Care can range from simple words of encouragement to artwork, poems, or letters. Children's artwork or notes are welcome! Any positive note makes a big difference in the life of senior citizens that are isolated and lonely.
