A brief description of the institution's initiatives to shift individual attitudes and practices in regard to energy efficiency (e.g. outreach and education efforts):
The Bard Office of Sustainability performs various outreaches to the Bard Community, in the form of signage and information on everyday energy-saving practices, incandescent light bulb exchange program, and notifications of "demand response" events.

A brief description of energy use standards and controls employed by the institution (e.g. building temperature standards, occupancy and vacancy sensors):
As buildings are updated, standards are to perform LED lighting upgrades, HVAC controls upgrades, and to add occupancy sensors where appropriate. Occupancy and nighttime temperature setbacks are implemented in buildings when technically possible/feasible.

A brief description of Light Emitting Diode (LED) lighting and other energy-efficient lighting strategies employed by the institution:
Bard uses LED lighting in a variety of applications, including interior lighting and street/path lighting. - In a 2013 interior lighting upgrade that spanned 50+ buildings, more than 1200 fixtures were retrofitted to LED. - Nearly all exit lights/signs have been converted to LED. - As of 2015 all exterior street and path lighting was upgraded to LED

A brief description of passive solar heating, geothermal systems, and related strategies employed by the institution:
Currently, roughly 38% of the Main Campus' building squarefootage utilizes geothermal heat-exchange technology, and it the default HVAC system for all new construction (unless shown to be economically or technically infeasible).

As equipment, appliances, and lighting systems are replaced, the standard is to replace it with Energy Star or comparable high-efficiency models.

The data inconsistency between IC2 Gross Floor Building Space and subsequent credits (OP1, OP3, OP5, and OP22) is due to the fact the IC2 values represent Bard as it exists in FY2016/17 at the time of STARS submission, and the Performance Year values are for FY2015/16 (i.e. the most recent and complete set of data, 1 full year, for GHG emissions and energy consumption). In particular, this is due to the purchase/addition of the Montgomery Place property to the Bard Campus in January 2016, when additional acreage and buildings were added. IC2 “gross floor building space” value for FY2016/17 = 1,248,230 ft2 (i.e. after purchase of Montgomery Place property). Performance Year “gross floor building space” value for FY2015/16 = 1,204,980 ft2 (i.e. before purchase of Montgomery Place property).
