Bard is evaluating the feasibility of sustainable micro hydropower at our two non powered campus dams using a process that puts the ecology and community needs alongside the technical and regulatory feasibility of the project.
We are also developing a statewide website to help other non powered dam owners understand the multiple issues associated with owning a dam that they need to understand in order to evaluate the appropriateness of micro hydropower at their site.

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced in 2016 that New York State will award $1 million each to Bard College, University at Buffalo, and Broome Community College as part of the “Energy to Lead Competition.” The competition was announced by the Governor in October 2015 and challenged student-led coalitions from New York colleges and universities across the state to develop plans for local clean energy projects on campus and in their communities.
