Presidential Support for Pricing Carbon
A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome that outlines how credit criteria are met and any positive measurable outcomes associated with the innovation:
A student effort to put a price on carbon led to President Botstein adding his support to the effort to solve the climate crisis through putting a price on carbon, making Bard among the leaders in this effort. By lending the collegiate voice to the demand for a market-based solution to the climate crisis, the College is fulfilling its role to be a responsible steward of learning.

Our Climate’s higher education initiative, part of the #PutAPriceOnIt campaign organized by partnership with Citizens’ Climate Education and Years of Living Dangerously. The campaign began in 2016 and works to help college students understand the importance of pricing carbon, and ultimately encourage their institutions’ presidents to publicly support a carbon price. Bard entered the leadership circle of 30 colleges when the process culminated in President Botstein signing this commitment.
