A brief description of the institution’s assurance process:

As part of Ball State University's (BSU) commitment to building a culture of sustainability, an annual BSU AASHE STARS Reporting process has been created and fully implemented with a STARS sustainability reporting coordinator (Julie Hopwood), 17 Category Supervisors, 45 corresponding STARS Category Reporters and 13 Reporter Partners. Furthermore, all data is recorded and tracked utilizing the "BSU STARS Reporting Master Spreadsheet" to track participant roles/teams, assigned STARS categories, current and past cumulative and individual category points, pending/completion status, immediate & long-term high potential STARS categories, as well as additional individual STARS Category notes (i.e. justifications, barriers, opportunities) for the record and as a centralized archival source for future BSU STARS sustainability reporters.
Based on BSU's commitment to continuous improvement, a two-step internal assurance process was implemented for the second consecutive year. First, for each reporting category, the STARS sustainability reporting coordinator assigns the "Category Supervisors" who are not responsible for data collection or entry, but who are familiar with the STARS category, requirements, and university processes related to the STARS category. Second, the corresponding STARS Category Reporter(s)/Reporter Partners, chosen by the Category Supervisors then enter the data and submit it to the sustainability reporting coordinator and their respective Category Supervisors for review and approval.

Finally, the sustainability reporting coordinator then reviews all BSU STARS category entries, confirms the data, and facilitates all data, link, and other corrections with the appropriate STARS Category Supervisor, Reporter, and/or Reporter Partner(s).
