A brief description of the program, policy, or practice:
Disabled Student Development/ Office of Institutional Diversity/ ADA
Ball State University was recently identified as one of 75 colleges that go above and beyond the mandates of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act. The role of Disabled Student Development (DSD) is to coordinate services and accommodations for students with disabilities. In doing so, we review disability documentation, meet with students to determine appropriate accommodations, and work with other areas on campus to implement the accommodations.
DSD empowers students to take control of their own educational experience. We assist them along the way by providing access and opportunity in order for them to reach their full potential.
Our office balances the legal rights of students with disabilities and the integrity of Ball State’s institutional standards. DSD serves as a clearinghouse for all student disability-related issues at Ball State. In addition to coordinating academic accommodations, they provide disability awareness programs and training for the campus.
