Does the institution have a program to reduce residence hall move-in waste?:
Yes
None
A brief description of the program:
Each year when Housing and Residence Life sends room assignment information, they include a “Move-In Green Insert”. The insert recommends that students use waste minimization practices prior to and during move-in periods (e.g., buy fluorescent light bulbs, buy energy star rated appliances, bring reusable dishes, and pack items in reusable containers). Students are asked to recycle beverage and food containers, paper and cardboard during move-in days, and every student room is provided a blue bag bin to further encourage waste reduction and recycling practices. The university is currently working on “greening” its showcase rooms that are shown to prospective students. The green showcase rooms will display different ways students can set up their living space to be more energy efficient and produce less waste.
