A brief description of the program:
For all new and major renovation construction projects, Ball State University under LEED guidelines does follow LEED MR Credit 5: Regional Materials, which requires the use 10% to 20% regional building materials or products that have been extracted, harvested, recovered as well as manufactured within 500 miles of the project site based on cost of the total materials used. By using local building products and businesses, the university is reducing the environmental impacts resulting from transportation and helps establish locally sourced materials and suppliers.
