A brief description of the plan’s measurable goals :
Unit-Level Sustainability Plans In accordance with the goals and objectives of the 2007-2012 Ball State University Strategic Plan, the Council on the Environment originated a Unit-Level Sustainability Plan Template for use by administrative units throughout campus. Fully 102 such units have used that model to frame their individual approaches to the challenge of addressing sustainability in Education and Research, Planning and Administration, and Operations. These categories derive from the Sustainability Tracking and Assessment and Rating System (STARS). Ball State University participated in the development of this tool as a pilot study school and is now a charter member of this national public reporting system. Each administrative unit has adapted the template document to its sustainability goals and objectives during this five-year strategic planning cycle. It is expected that these plans will be updated and expanded as needed.

A brief description of how progress in meeting the plan’s goals is measured:
The Office of the Provost provides annual reports on Strategic Plan Progress; see strategic plan web site. This progress includes updates on the 102 unit-level sustainability plans whose respective and collective content are structured on the STARS framework. We also are using a ‘Mapping Sustainability’ tool for real-time submission of content by all campus stakeholders. And, we have conducted a counterpart Global Reporting Initiative Assessment of the campus; we are only the second American University to use this tool.
