"Bee Well" Faculty Staff Wellness Campaign

A brief description of the campaign:
The "Bee Well" Faculty Staff Wellness Campaign encourages employees to to live optimally through encouraging physical health, exercise, nutrition, and integration of the mind, body and spirit. Employees are encouraged to attend specific events, take on various health-related challenges, and engage in wellness courses on campus.

A brief description of the measured positive impact(s) of the campaign:
Through encouraging this lifestyle, employees are driven towards living more more sustainable lifestyle contributing towards the bettering of their own health as well as the health of the earth. The campaign assures that employees are given the resources needed to live well and engage in various sustainable and wellness related events on campus.

Recyclemania

A brief description of the campaign (2nd campaign):
Campus Race to Zero Waste is a competition that colleges and universities, like Baldwin Wallace University, can participate in to promote waste reduction activities within the campus community. BW was involved in the previous Recyclemania program since 2010 and the program continues to grow on campus each year.

A brief description of the measured positive impact(s) of the campaign (2nd campaign):
As a result of our participation in the Campus Race to Zero Waste hosted by the National Wildlife Federation, we actively promote participation on campus via fliers and proudly display the logo of the competition on our Sustainability Program's homepage: https://www.bw.edu/academics/undergraduate/sustainability/

Baldwin Wallace University has just launched three new Sustainability initaitives. Two are aimed at students and one at staff, students, and faculty. These include:
(1) STUDENT CAMPAIGN: Baldwin Wallace University Office Of Residence Life Green Room Certification Program

The Residence Life Green Room Certification is used to give recognition to students living a sustainable lifestyle on campus. There are three levels that increase in difficulty and points. By scoring all the actions that apply to you and your room you can reach Silver, Gold or Platinum certification (Gold and Platinum required a visit from Office of Residence Life) and receive increasing levels of acknowledgment. Supported by the Residence Life Eco Reps and the BW Sustainability Committee.

Silver Certification (at least 75 points): Certificate to post near your door.
Gold Certification (at least 150 points): The above plus a coupon to the Cyber cafe.
Platinum Certification (at least 220 points): All of the above plus a water bottle.

Energy and Greenhouse Gas Emissions

I. I commit to do the following to conserve energy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions:

(1) Set the "sleep" mode on my computer and monitor
(2) Turn off lights when I don't need them
(3) Unplug chargers or use power strips
(4) Use CFLs (Compact Fluorescent Lamps)
(5) Wash clothes in cold water using the Delicates cycle
(6) Walk, bike, or use mass transit
(7) Take the stairs instead of the elevator
(8) Close my windows during the winter and adjust the heating vent to regulate temperature

(3) (1) STAFF/FACULTY/STUDENT CAMPAIGN: The Baldwin Wallace University Green Office Space Certification Program: The BW Green Office Certification program has the following goals: (1) To raise awareness of everyday sustainability, (2) educate ourselves and those around us about good sustainability practices, and (3) provide measureable guidelines for greening our office environments. Supported by the Eco Reps and BW Sustainability Committee. Please select all actions that you pledge to follow during this academic year. The categories are:

20+ = Platinum
15+ = Gold
10+ = Silver

Offices that achieve any level of certification will:
1.1 Turn off the lights in unoccupied rooms and at the end of the day.
1.2 We have prompts posted on or next to our light switches that remind people to turn off the lights when they exit a room.
1.3 We have enabled energy saving modes (standby or hibernate) on our computers, and we turn off both computers and monitors at night.
1.4 Eliminate the use of single-use printers and utilize network printers and copiers as best we can.
1.5 We use power strips as central turn-off points at all of our individual workstations and switch them off each night.
1.6 We conserve water in our office by not running the faucet for extended periods (e.g. when washing hands or dishes), and we have prompts posted next to the faucets in our bathroom and kitchen (if we have one) reminding people to turn off the water. We report all water leaks or dripping faucets to B&G in a timely manner.
1.7 Use the stairs instead of the elevator whenever possible, unless health or mobility challenges exists.
1.8 Report problems with heating and cooling in your area by contacting Building and Grounds as needed.
1.9 We use compact fluorescent lights bulbs (CFLs) or light emitting diode (LED) bulbs in auxiliary lighting that I own or can control in your office space
1.10 We open shades or curtains to utilize natural light during the day, instead of more artificial lighting, and close them at the end of workday (when it is possible).
1.11 The office printers and copiers default to double-sided and black and white.
1.12 The office recycles all printer and toner cartridges
1.13 The office offers battery recycling in a convenient location or donate to local charity.
1.14 Use scrap paper for note taking, rough drafts, or working copies of documents.
1.15 Do not provide Styrofoam cups to employees or guest.
1.16 We use environmentally preferable dishwashing soap.
1.17 The office staff doesn’t use portable space heaters
1.18 Use reusable inter-office instead of regular envelopes whenever possible
1.19 We encourage office staff to bring their own reusable mugs and cups to use during the day and for office events.
1.20 We purchase office supplies such as coffee, sugar, creamer, salt, pepper and other condiments in multi-serving containers rather than in single serving packages.
1.21 Purchase organic and/or fair trade coffee and tea for the office
1.22 We encourage office staff to walk to events and meeting across campus (weather permitting and the health of the employee’s).
1.23 We encourage office staff to car-pool, walk, bike or take public transportation to work if possible.
1.24 We have mix-recycling containers in our office and use them consistently.
1.25 We separate all paper waste and place it in the appropriate blue containers.
1.26 We provide a compost receptacle container for food waste (banana or orange peels, etc…).
1.27 We have a discussion in our office or building at least once a year on how to be more sustainable.
1.28 Our office does not regularly purchase bottled or delivered drinking water for daily use.
1.29 Our office regularly use reusable bags instead of plastic bags.
1.30 We regular share office supplies (i.e. staplers, scissors, tape) whenever possible.
