A brief description of the sustainability-focused immersive program(s) offered by the institution:

I. The Sustainability Program requires majors to complete SUS100X/200X/300X/400X (the prefix depends upon the student's class year): Sustainability Experiential Learning Component in order to graduate, which may be fulfilled in one of three ways: (1) completing an approved internship with a local organization that explicitly relates to sustainability, (2) embarking upon an approved two week study abroad experience that includes a sustainability component, or (3) a science based field work project.

One example of the two-week study abroad sustainability immersive experience attached to a semester long three credit hour course that was offered in 2022 is titled "Discover Iceland" which was offered in the SP22 semester with Dr. Jill Stephens Fleisher (former Co-Director of Sustainability and now Associate Dean of Social Sciences) and Dr. Carrie Davis Todd (Director of the Environmental Science program). The focus of the trip was on sustainability and environmental related issues including climate change and thus is pre-approved to satisfy the Experiential Learning requirement for the Sustainability major.

II. The Engineering Program at Baldwin Wallace requires students to complete EGR305: Global Engineering Experience.
Prerequisite(s): EGR 203, EGR 300, EGR 301 & EGR 304. The university has allocated grant funding of $2,000 to support the director of the Engineering Program, Dr. Helen Muga, and a colleague to travel abroad for this purpose.

This course is designed to provide the student with interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary exposure to international engineering projects, specifically projects in the developing world. The course is designed to expose students to the grand challenges of society and the need for various stakeholders (engineers, scientists, policy-makers, etc) to collaborate and to develop, test, and implement innovative, appropriate, cost-effective, and sustainable solutions. Topics such as systems thinking, green engineering, sustainability life cycle analysis, life cycle cost analysis will be covered. This course has an international component whereby students travel abroad at the end of the semester to implement their semester-long projects.
