Name or title of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome:
Sustainable Food Stops Phone App
A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome that outlines how credit criteria are met and any positive measurable outcomes associated with the innovation:
At the request of Dr. Christy Walkuski, Chair of the Sustainable Foodstop Taskforce at BW, computer science professor Dr. Brian Krupp and his students are working on creating a phone app that will allow for the easy identification of where, how much, and when unused food is available to be picked up after a university evet. The intent is to deal both with the problem with food waste as well as the problem of food insecurity on campus by establishing locations where this food will then be available to the student body at designated locations with refrigerators and trained staff, faculty, and students in food safety. Training has already been completed and the app currently exists in a beta model. The system has been tested successfully and will launch in January of 2019. It is hoped that if this app is successful, it may be marketed to a wider array of interested institutions and sustainability organizations.
