A brief description of the methodology used to determine the total number of courses offered and to identify sustainability course offerings, including the definitions used and the process for reviewing and/or validating the course inventory :

Total courses offered were determined by counting courses in our online registration tool for the following terms: Fall 2016, Janterm 2017, and Spring 2017. All exclusions allowed by the STARS Technical Manual (physical education courses, performance art courses, etc) were excluded save "Special Topics," as that category was considered too vague to determine what would and wouldn't be applicable. The definition for "sustainability course offerings" found in the STARS Technical Manual was used, and total number of sustainability course offerings was determined by reviewing course descriptions.

How were courses with multiple offerings or sections counted for the figures reported above?:
Each offering or section of a course was counted as an individual course

A brief description of how courses with multiple offerings or sections were counted (if different from the options outlined above):

Each section of a course was counted as a separate course per the guidance on page 34 of the STARS 2.1 Technical Manual. Of course, this was done for both the total course count and the sustainability course count. On the provided course inventory, the bolded course titles list how many sections were offered in parentheses (if it was more than one). If you count each section as a separate course, you’ll end up with 14 sustainability courses and 49 courses that include sustainability. The numbers next to the course titles on the inventory are placeholders to keep the list organized and are not intended to be the official count.
