Be Well Hut

A brief description of the student educators program (1st program):

The Be Well Hut is the Office of Health Promotion and Wellness Service's main peer outreach program. Their team encourages healthy living among their peers by leading activities and discussing topics that are focused on making healthy choices as college students. These activities include but are not limited to: passing out buttons and other educational materials, engaging with students on social media, attending campus events and passing out buttons, and collaborating with other student/community organizations. Students apply for the position and then interview for the position with university staff. Students complete a required two-hour training through the university. In addition, the students attend weekly meetings to discuss and research a topic area, and create educational materials such as handouts, buttons, posters, and/or social media posts. The materials are then used at the Be Well Hut, where students pass them out to other students while educating them on the topic of the week and connecting them with related resources. The departmental budget covers all the costs associated with the program. Data reported was from Fall 2020.
