Sustain-A-Bowl is a month-long competition among the residence halls on campus to reduce energy and water use, increase recycling rates, and to educate students living in residence halls about sustainability.
Resident Assistants conducted outreach activities with the students in their halls throughout the month of February to engage students in energy and water saving activities and to involve students in a range of events and activities related to Sustain-A-Bowl. These events can include such things as attending a presentation or a Campus Conversation on a related topic, conduct in-hall events such as a sustainable dinner, trivia night, or showing a film related to a sustainability topic. The two competitions over the past three years saved over $11,000 in electricity and water.

Student educators are determined by their positions as Resident Assistants. The Office of Sustainability works with the Residence Life staff to plan for the event and prepare for training of the student educators.

Office of Sustainability staff meet with the Resident Assistants and provide training on the concepts of sustainability, the relevance and importance of energy and water conservation (including dramatic financial savings as a result of previous years' Sustain-A-Bowl activities). Office of Sustainability staff also work with student educators to develop events and activities related to the Sustain-A-Bowl themes of resource conservation and community building.

Residence Hall staff provides oversight, supervision, and other staff time, including financial support for events and activities, to support the Sustain-A-Bowl program. Also, Office of Sustainability staff contributes time gathering and analyzing electric and water meters and also provides event ideas for student educators to use when working with residents.

The Leadership Program is a series of trainings designed for potential trip leaders to learn many aspects of working for an outdoor recreational program. The trainings consist of many topics that pertain to outdoor leadership, but also focus on skills that are transferable to other areas of life. Trainings are offered to current Auburn Outdoors student leaders who serve as educators to their peers. Specifically they run bike clinics and day trips through the program. In the first year they led 23 off-campus trips.

Students learn leadership skills such as solid judgement, decision making skills, and conflict resolution tactics both through on-the-job training and by attending the Arkansas Regional Adventure Programming (ARAP) Conference. At the ARAP students lead and attend presentations and skills clinics among their peers.

The Be Well Hut is the Office of Health Promotion and Wellness Service's peer outreach program. Their team encourages healthy living among their peers by leading activities and discussing topics that are focused on making healthy choices as college students.
