A brief description of the institution’s program(s) to encourage faculty research in sustainability:

The Auburn University Intramural Grants Program provides funding for faculty exploratory, interdisciplinary research, including sustainability-related topics such as Energy and the Environment, Gulf-related research, and Transportation.

Academic Sustainability Programs, housed in the Office of the Provost, provides incentives for faculty to engage in sustainability research and connect with potential collaborators across campus. This program hosts annual Sustainability Research Roundtable Discussions (beginning in 2011), in which interested faculty from across campus are invited to share catered meals and discuss their research interests in sustainability, exploring potential collaborations with colleagues from departments in all 13 colleges on campus. The inaugural roundtable research event led to the development of a directory of faculty who are engaged sustainability research, which was the precursor to the research inventory produced for STARS.
