A brief description of any internal sustainability professional development and training opportunities that the institution makes available to staff:

ASU offers various sustainability themed professional development/ training opportunities throughout the year. Some of the program offerings include: the annual Commission on the Status of Women/Staff Council Professional Development Conference, which includes workshops on sustainability; online sustainability literacy training that is open to all staff members; and workshops facilitated through human resources where sustainable practices are modeled and encouraged. Staff also have the opportunity to participate in self-guided or facilitated training to receive a sustainability certification for their office, lab, shop, or event. University Sustainability Practices and Zero Waste department also offers presentations to individual departments upon request covering a variety of sustainability topics.

Additionally, the Committee for Campus Inclusion holds an annual conference, free and open, to all faculty, students, and staff.


A brief description of any external professional development and training opportunities in sustainability that are supported by the institution(e.g. through payment, reimbursement, or subsidy):

Among others, LEED Training is offered by the Office of the University Architect and facilitated through an outside contractor. The cost for an employee to participate in the training is covered by the employee's department.

Within this category there are concrete suggestions by which to evaluate an employee as not meeting, meeting, or exceeding in the realm of sustainability. Suggested evaluation criteria is linked to how often or how many activities an employees participates in related to sustainability.
