A brief description of how multiple stakeholder groups were involved in developing the plan:

The Sustainability Practices Network (SPN) - referenced earlier - participated in the development of the Sustainability Practices Strategic Plan for the University. Outlining how the organization intends to achieve four goals: Carbon Neutrality, Zero Solid/Water Waste, Active Engagement and Principled Practice.


A brief description of the plan’s measurable goals :

Goal One - Carbon Neutrality - Campus to be Carbon Neutral for Scope 1, 2 and non-transportation Scope 3 emissions by 2025; Carbon Neutral for Scope 3 transportation emissions by 2035.

Goal Two- Zero (Solid/Water) Waste - To facilitate implementation, sub-goals for solid waste and water waste are addressed separately.

Goal Two A – Zero Solid Waste - Eliminate 90% of campus solid waste stream by 2015.

Goal Two B - Zero Water Waste – Reduce water consumption by 50 percent or eliminate 100 percent of campus water effluent by 2020.

Goal Three - Active Engagement - Achieve 60 percent documented engagement by members of the campus community by 2015.

Goal Four- Principled Practice - Integrate Sustainability Practice Principles in 80 percent of campus operations and functions.


A brief description of how progress in meeting the plan’s goals is measured:

Annual benchmarking ( such as, tonnages for solid waste, gallons for water), data captures on signature projects (such as, gallons of water diverted through Central Plant water recapture program).

Participation in AASHE STARS.

The development of a comprehensive data tracking application - tracking data across different campuses and sectors and eventually displaying it publicly via http://cm.asu.edu.
