Does the institution have an ongoing program or programs that offer incentives for faculty in multiple disciplines or departments to develop new sustainability courses and/or incorporate sustainability into existing courses?:
Yes
A brief description of the program(s), including positive outcomes during the previous three years (e.g. descriptions of new courses or course content resulting from the program):
The College encourages submissions for Environmental Leadership grants of $500-$1000 for development of courses or course modules related to sustainability across the curriculum. The Economicology Leadership Fund is an endowed fund which supports these activities. In the 2017-2018 academic year, multiple faculty from the Departments of Geography and Environmental Studies, Chemistry, and History were awarded Economicology Leadership grants for course development directly related to sustainability. One grant was for a new course, others for modules within existing courses. In the year before that, grants were awarded to faculty for the development of Sustainability modules in a General Education course and in an English course.
In addition, the Faculty voted to include Sustainability as one of the General Education outcomes for the liberal arts curriculum. Plans are underway to develop the specific ways in which sustainability will be incorporated in the General Education curriculum in response to this mandate.
In addition, the Faculty Sustainability Committee in conjunction with the Provost's Office and Center for Sustainability launched a Faculty Sustainability Fellows program in January 2014. Fellows are expected to attend events, workshops, and work on a project of their own choosing during that time, focused on incorporating sustainability into an existing course or designing a new course related to sustainability.
A brief description of the incentives that faculty members who participate in the program(s) receive:
Economicology Leadership Fund grants are either for $500 or $1000. Sustainability Fellows receive a $400 stipend for their participation
