A brief description of how sustainability is included prominently in new student orientation :
Appalachian State University holds required new-student orientations for all undergraduate students, including transfer students. Orientation dates occur before classes begin for the semester or applicable summer sessions. App State hosts new graduate student orientations as well.

As part of any new student orientation, the Office of Sustainability provides the following information:

-Recycling and composting throughout campus

-Sustainability in general on campus (renewable energy, bee campus/tree campus certifications, campus gardens, zero waste, etc)

-Various ways to get involved including: sustainability related events, volunteer opportunities, and on campus internships

-The on campus food pantry and free store located in the Office of Sustainability
