The percentage of employees (staff and faculty) assessed, directly or by representative sample:

A brief description of the institution’s methodology for evaluating employee satisfaction and engagement:

Staff:
The 2011-2012 Staff Survey (prepared by the Staff Senate Quality of Life Committee) was offered to all 1,584 permanent SPA and EPA staff employees on record; 622 responded.

Faculty:
On January 29, [2013 a] survey was sent to 1408 faculty across the instructional ranks. The faculty were given two weeks to complete the survey, with several “reminder” notices sent out to those who had not yet responded. Of the 1,408 eligible faculty members at ASU who were contacted to participate in the survey, 675 faculty members completed the questionnaire for a response rate of 47.9%.

The survey was comprised of 12 sections: Demographic Data, Teaching Conditions, Research Conditions, Service Activity and Rewards, Attitudes toward the Chancellor, Attitudes toward the Provost, Attitudes towards the Deans, Attitudes toward the Department Chairs, Overall Morale, and three open-ended questions regarding morale.

A brief description of the mechanism(s) by which the institution addresses issues raised by the evaluation (including examples from the previous three years):

Staff:
The Staff Senate Quality of Life Committee makes recommendations and reports survey findings to administrators, the Staff Senate, and the campus. The purpose for staff surveys is to determine areas of employee concerns, identify recurring issues, elicit positive and negative feedback, pinpoint areas which need improvement, and to learn more about employee attitudes, experiences, and values.

Faculty:
The Faculty Grievance Hearing Committee is a committee constituted solely of faculty. Grievances within the province of the Faculty Grievance Hearing Committee shall include matters directly related to a faculty member's institutional relationships and conditions of employment.

The year the employee satisfaction and engagement evaluation was last administered:
2,013
