A brief description of programs, policies, infrastructure investments, outreach efforts, and/or other factors that contributed to the diversion rate:

The ASU Recycling program is an in-house operation divided between the Physical Plant Administration (academic and administrative areas) and Housing and Residence Life (residential areas). ASU recycles the following items on a scheduled basis: office paper, newspaper, magazines, books, corrugated cardboard, plastic, aluminum, steel and glass. In addition to these items, there are several other special recycling items collected in various locations throughout campus as needed. We also operate an on-site aerated static compost program. The recycling program has been in place since 1988. We have developed an ongoing comprehensive education and outreach plan targeted toward the entire campus community.
