Narrative outlining the data collection process used in the preparation of this report:
Data collection was coordinated and overseen by the Office of Sustainability, and took the greater part of nine months to gather, curate, and prepare the STARS report for submission. We used a spreadsheet that listed all of the STARS reporting metrics. For each metric we identified a campus stakeholder who could provide a response or required data. The Office of Sustainability made the asks and served as the central repository for the data and responses collected.
List of personnel who led the reporting process:
Weston Dripps, Director of Sustainability
List of additional personnel who contributed to the reporting process:
There were a very large number of campus stakeholders who contributed data and responses to the STARS metrics. The Office of Sustainability oversaw and coordinated the data collection process and correspondence with stakeholders.
Were students involved in the data collection process?:
Narrative outlining how students were involved in the data collection process:
Two students contributed extensively to the collection, curation, and analysis of data for this report. The Office of Sustainability hired Emily Byers '25 and Sara Zhu' 24 as sustainability assessment fellows. They worked 6 hours a week for the 2023 - 2024 academic year on connecting with stakeholders and gathering the data required for all of the STARS metrics.
Description of the internal data quality controls used in the preparation of this report:
The Office of Sustainability staff and the two student fellows methodically went through all of the reporting metrics together to double check to be sure each response, metric, and the supporting data were accurate and complete. We also checked our responses against the Review Framework that AASHE provides, before sharing the report with an internal (Audrey Woods) and external peer reviewer (Margaret Bounds, Connecticut College).
Were any independent audits or external assurance processes used in the preparation of this report?:
Narrative outlining the independent audits or external assurance processes used in the preparation of this report:
Margaret Bounds, the Director of Sustainability at Connecticut College, reviewed the report before we submitted.
