A brief description of the methodology the institution followed to complete the research inventory:

To compile the research inventory, AUCA University employed a comprehensive methodology that involved several key steps:

  1. Determination of Total Number of Research Employees:

    • The total number of employees engaged in research was determined by reviewing records of research activities and staff involvement. This included extracting data from CASI research grant winners and the Presidential Research and Education Fund.
  2. Identification of Sustainability Research:

    • Sustainability research was identified based on specific definitions and criteria related to sustainability. For this inventory, sustainability research was defined as research explicitly focused on environmental, social, or economic sustainability issues.
    • To ensure accuracy, research projects were reviewed to verify their alignment with these definitions. Projects were categorized based on their relevance to sustainability principles and their contributions to sustainability knowledge.
  3. Process for Reviewing and Validating the Research Inventory:

    • The inventory primarily includes data from CASI research grant winners, as well as additional information from the Presidential Research and Education Fund. Interviews with relevant personnel provided additional data points for the inventory.
    • An Excel file with questions regarding research and sustainability research was created with the support of the VPPA. This file was distributed to all department heads and faculty members.
    • Most responses were collected via email, with follow-up communications to ensure completeness and accuracy. The collected data was reviewed and validated to ensure that the inventory accurately reflects the institution's research focus and contributions to sustainability.

This methodology ensured a thorough and accurate representation of research activities related to sustainability at AUCA, incorporating data from multiple sources and validating findings through direct engagement with faculty and department heads.
