Institutional Boundary

This report covers sustainability performance data for The American University in Cairo (AUC), with the institutional boundary defined to include activities, operations, and facilities located at the AUC New Cairo Campus.

Included Features:

The following components of the AUC New Cairo Campus are included within the reporting boundary:

• All academic buildings, administrative offices, research facilities, and classrooms.
• Student housing located on campus.
• Sports, recreation, and wellness facilities.
• Central utility plants and infrastructure supporting campus operations.
• On-campus food services and retail outlets operated directly by AUC or contracted vendors.
• Landscaping and outdoor spaces within the campus perimeter.

Excluded Features:

The following elements are excluded from this report’s boundary:

• AUC Tahrir Square campus, as it is no longer the primary site of university operations and is used for limited events, conferences, and extension programs.
• Off-campus leased spaces or externally managed facilities not owned or operated by AUC.

Data Limitations:

• The report focuses on data from the AUC New Cairo Campus, which houses the majority of the university's academic and operational functions. As a result, sustainability performance data from other minor facilities (such as Tahrir Square campus) are not represented, which may slightly underreport certain indicators (such as total energy use or transportation impacts).
• Some data related to third-party vendors and contractors operating on campus may be limited due to access restrictions or incomplete reporting from external partners.
• Historic data gaps in areas such as water usage, waste tracking, and carbon emissions may impact year-to-year comparisons. However, efforts have been made to collect the most recent and accurate data available through collaboration with the relevant departments.
