A brief description of the institution’s community garden:
There are 2 separate community gardens on campus. The AU Community Garden aims to create a viable, urban garden on our campus through teamwork and education, and involve the greater AU community in sustainable learning.
The main AU Community Garden is open to students, staff, faculty, and neighbors/community members to grow and harvest food.
Additionally, AU has a partnership with the Smithsonian Gardens to create AU's Edible Garden called the Companion Garden through a Learning by Leading program. Planters outside of McKinley have seasonal produce growing year-round.
On the Nebraska Avenue side of the School of International Service, there are several edible plants that grow and are available for anyone in the community to take. Some examples of plants that grow there are lavender, oregano, chives, and basil.
