The President’s Commission on Diversity and Inclusion embraces and nurtures a diverse institutional culture that is in accord with the College’s Strategic Plan. The President’s Commission on Diversity and Inclusion:

•Advises the President on issues, policies and practices that affect the College’s commitment as a champion of diversity and inclusion;
•Reports regularly to the President and the College community on the status of issues of diversity and inclusion at Alfred State College;
•Offers recommendations to improve the campus climate for a diverse institutional culture;
•Proposes initiatives to help achieve the strategic goal of ensuring greater racial and ethnic diversity at Alfred State College, and in this regard to fully engage faculty, staff, and students in the creation of an institutional culture that fosters diversity and is inclusive.

A brief description of the diversity office:

The Office of Multicultural Affairs (OMA) has a primary mission of coordinating and implementing a comprehensive multicultural experience for the college community. Through educational workshops/programs, cultural programs, advocacy and outreach, OMA facilitates student growth in multicultural competence. While serving as a resource for ALANA (African-American, Latino-American, Asian-American and Native-American) students in matters of academic, social, cultural and personal well-being, OMA promotes all students' understanding and appreciation of racial, ethnic, gender, sexual orientation and other differences. OMA is committed to creating opportunities for students to challenge bias by promoting sustained dialogues around individual differences and to prepare students to be engaged and effective citizens in an increasingly global society. OMA collaborates with other academic departments and student affairs offices on campus to create a welcoming and supportive learning environment for all.
