Reeves Executive Director Center for Sustainability |
1.1 Coordinating committee, officer, or office for sustainability
Narrative and/or website URL providing an overview of the institution’s sustainability committees:
When Agnes Scott College began its sustainability program in 2007, the Office of Sustainability established the Sustainability Steering Committee (SSC). The committee guided the initial sustainability plan and climate action plan, while also providing assistance for all aspects of the college’s sustainability program, including STARS. The committee was made up of trustees, alumnae, students, faculty, and staff and was chaired by former President Elizabeth Kiss.
In 2015, the Office of Sustainability transitioned to the Center for Sustainability, which marked a transition from sustainability planning to program implementation. As a result, the Center transitioned the SSC into programmatic committees that provide guidance and planning on some of the college’s programmatic priorities, including the Arboretum Advisory Committee and the Green Revolving Fund Committee. These two committees meet three to four times a year and have been instrumental in guiding two of the Center’s hallmark programs. The Arboretum Advisory Committee works to ensure no-net loss of tree canopy, collaborate on engagement opportunities with the broader campus and surrounding communities, and provide education through events, activities and campaigns. The Green Revolving Fund Committee helps run the Green Revolving Fund and make decisions about project funding. In February 2021, Agnes Scott and the City of Decatur, Georgia completed a joint Climate Resilience Plan (CRP). The purpose of the CRP was to identify together the most pressing impacts of climate change anticipated in this region and to outline the strategies for addressing these impacts, both in terms of preparation and response. Agnes Scott hosts the Climate Resilience Plan Implementation Task Force, which serves to implement the goals and projects outlined in the CRP. Members of each committee are listed below.
