The Sustainability Steering Committee (SSC) is a group of trustees, alumnae, students, faculty and staff. The SSC is chaired by President Elizabeth Kiss. The committee guides the college’s sustainability plan and climate action plan. They also provide advice and assistance for all aspects of the college's sustainability program, including STARS.
The Sustainability Steering Committee's Mission Statement is: Following the college’s mission to live honorably, Agnes Scott College accepts the challenge of environmental stewardship, commits to education and leadership in sustainability, and seeks to balance what the college takes from and returns to the world’s natural resources.
During the past two years, while the Center for Sustainability focused on implementation, there has not been the need for regular meetings of the SSC. Three spin-off committees - the Green Team, the Arboretum Advisory Committee, and the Green Revolving Fund Committee - have been meeting three to four times a year. The Center for Sustainability strives to connect all aspects of campus life together to reach the common goals of living in a sustainable way and reducing the college's carbon footprint. The Center is housed within the Office of the President. First a sustainability office was opened in 2008 following the appointment of Agnes Scott College's first director of sustainability, Susan Kidd. In 2015 the office became the Center for Sustainability with Kidd as the executive director. In addition the Center always has at least one recent graduate hired as a sustainability fellow. For 2015 to 2018 it is Elizabeth Rowe '15. Two additional fellows were employed by the Center in 2017-2018, Bryn Bassett and Gianni Rodriguez.

The Executive Director of the Center for Sustainability has:
- Assisted in successful fundraising and/or financing for the Green Revolving Fund, one geothermal HVAC project, and multiple solar installations.
- Managed the transition of the office from planning phase to implementation.
- Helped establish a more rigorous energy and water tracking system.
- Trained three recent Agnes Scott graduates to work in the Center as sustainability fellows and helped guide their successful projects in these and other areas: Climate action planning, GHG inventories, LEED certification, organic gardening, sustainability in residential life programming, curriculum development, and community outreach.
- Taught three courses as part ot the Environmental & Sustainability Studies curriculum.
