Green Living Learning Community
A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome that outlines how credit criteria are met and any positive measurable outcomes associated with the innovation:
The Green Living Learning Community (GLLC) is a new student life residential initiative created by the Office of Student Affairs, an instructor in International Studies, and supported by the Office of Sustainability. The GLLC aims to provide an immersive environment for students to formally and informally examine sustainability topics and the roles that they can play in addressing sustainability and climate change. Additionally, it aims to foster a culture of sustainability and climate action by increasing student understanding of the environmental, social, and economic impacts of individual actions, complimenting the formal classroom environment.
The inaugural edition of the GLLC primarily centered on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Individual classes and workshops were led by subject matter specialists who conducted lectures and discussions, complemented by educational activities organized by residential life student mentors (RAs). This interdisciplinary approach featured experts from diverse departments and fields, including Environmental Science, Architecture, Writing Studies, Marketing and Supply Chain, Climate Action, Nutrition, and Food Systems.
