A brief description of the institution’s main campus and other aspects of the institutional boundary used to complete this report:

The American University of Sharjah (“AUS”) was founded in 1997 by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qassimi, Ruler of Sharjah, Member of the Supreme Council, and President of AUS. AUS has succeeded in fulfilling His Highness’ vision for an American-style institution of higher education thoroughly grounded in Arab and Gulf culture. AUS has nearly 5,000 students with 28 majors and 45 minors at the undergraduate level, 16 master's degrees programs and two PhD programs AUS employs approximately 400 faculty and 500 staff and administrators.

A key component of the success of the institution over its first 20 years has been its campus. The campus is 128 hectares. In addition to the 16 academic buildings, the campus of AUS is a sizable residential community. AUS is home to almost 3,000 people, with over 1,500 students in dormitories and over 1,500 faculty, staff, and their families in AUS-provided housing. Approximately 3.500 students commute to campus every week and approximately 450 staff commute to campus every day.
